What to Expect
Before Your Appointment
- Let hair grow to at least a quarter inch — roughly two to three weeks of growth after shaving.
- Gently exfoliate the area 24–48 hours before your appointment to help prevent ingrown hairs.
- Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning on the area for at least 24 hours prior.
- Taking ibuprofen 30–45 minutes beforehand can help reduce sensitivity, especially for first-timers.
Aftercare
- Avoid hot showers, baths, saunas, and steam rooms for the first 24 hours after your wax.
- Wear loose, breathable clothing for the rest of the day to minimize friction and irritation.
- Begin gently exfoliating the area after 3 days to keep skin smooth and prevent ingrown hairs.
- Stay out of direct sun and skip self-tanner on the waxed area for 48 hours.
Brazilian Wax FAQs
The honest answer: the first one is the most intense, and it gets easier from there. Hard wax is significantly gentler than soft wax because it shrink-wraps around the hair without bonding to the skin. Most clients describe it as a quick, tolerable sting that fades within seconds. Taking ibuprofen beforehand and avoiding caffeine the morning of can also help. By your second or third appointment, the hair grows in thinner and the discomfort drops noticeably.
Make sure your hair is at least a quarter inch long — about two to three weeks of growth if you normally shave. Exfoliate gently a day or two before. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting underwear and clothing to your appointment. Your esthetician will walk you through every step and check in throughout, so you will never feel caught off guard. The whole service typically takes 15 to 30 minutes, and most clients say the anticipation is worse than the actual experience.
A bikini wax cleans up hair along the bikini line — the edges that would show outside a swimsuit. A Brazilian removes everything from front to back, including the labia and between the cheeks. You can also request a landing strip or a small triangle if you prefer to leave some hair. Your esthetician will ask what you want before starting so the result is exactly what you are comfortable with.
Most clients stay smooth for three to four weeks after a Brazilian. You may notice fine regrowth starting around week three, but the hair comes back softer and sparser than it would after shaving. For the best long-term results, we recommend booking every four to six weeks. Consistent waxing weakens the hair follicle over time, which means less growth and more time between appointments.
