It's best to use a gentle exfoliation 24-48 hours before your first wax appointment. If your skin is dehydrated, it tends to hold onto the hair more which can result in breakage rather than complete removal from the hair from the root. Breakage can likely cause ingrown hairs as well. Dehydrated skin that has not been exfoliated prior to waxing can also leave you with red itchy skin. If you are concerned about pain, taking an over the counter ADVIL or Ibuprofen 30-45 minutes before your appointment will alleviate some of the symptoms and help keep you relaxed during your service. Refraining from alcohol and caffeine is always a good idea as they dehydrate you, increase blood flow and tend to cause more pain during your service.
If you are accustomed to shaving, I recommend not shaving for 2 weeks and exfoliating 3 times a week while your hair grows out, it typically takes 2-3 waxes to eliminate all of your shaving results and maintain completely smooth skin in between waxes. The hair should be evenly the length of a long grain of rice. Though, the wax that is used at Honeypot is designed to grab even the shortest hair, it is always best to come in at least 1 week after your last shave, and maintain a regular waxing schedule every 3-4 weeks for best results.
You will want to start a regular exfoliation regimen about 72 hours after your first wax. You can purchase a gentle exfoliator at Honeypot that I can go over how to properly use at the time of your service. I also recommend using Fur Oil or Fur Ingrown Concentrate between exfoliations to eliminate bacteria, hydrate your skin and allow the hair follicle to softly regrow over time and not cause ingrown hairs or skin irritations during your regrowth process.
If you are on medication that increases your skin's photosensitivity, you may not be a good candidate for waxing. If you are using Retin-A or retinol products on your face or body or wish to wax an area that these products have been used on, discontinue the use of these products 3-5 days before your appointment. Clients taking the oral prescription Accutane will need wait 12 months before waxing per a Doctors recommendation. Those with Diabetes or diseases that cause poor circulation should be cautious when scheduling a wax appointment and always consult your physician first if you are concerned. Blood thinners are also a cause for concern as they can thin the blood and if an abrasion occurs, the bleeding will be difficult to stop. Please be advised if you are under a Dr's care for any illness or treatment, that Honeypot recommends consulting with your physician before any waxing service is scheduled. Please contact me directly with any medical concerns before your waxing appointment. I will be happy to answer them to the best of my knowledge.
